What is GETA DANCE?
GETA DANCE is a new style of performing art, contemporary Japanese performance, created by Miyuki Matsunaga. It blends elements of Japanese traditional dance, modern dance, and vocals of Japanese poetry with acting techniques, to make a dance style that expresses powerful emotions and also produces show-stopping theater pieces.
Performers wear Japanese GETA sandals with Kimono and use various traditional Japanese items such as SENSU(fan), KASA(umbrella) and KATANA(sword), which visually enhance the performances.
Each GETA DANCE piece has its own story, which is beautifully portrayed in each of MIYUKI's delicately choreographed dances and original HAIKU chakra vocals.GETA DANCE is performed to the sounds of Japanese TAIKO drums, MINYO(Japanese folk music), SHAKUHACHI(bamboo flute), and SHAMISEN.
Currently, Cirque Du Soleil artist, Mr.Pierre Dubé, music composer of Mystere and marinba player of Lion King, producing the music for GETA DANCE.
MIYUKI GETA DANCE was performed at Redondo Beach performing center, Japanese American Theater and James Armstrong theatre. And also performed for major Japan-America festivals and events in California, such as Nisei Week, Cherry Blossom festivals, Tanabata festivals and San Diego Japan Day.
